Why it’s worth acting now

Check the date on your notice

Insurers must give written notice. For non-payment, it’s at least 30 days by registered mail or 10 days if delivered in person. Other cancellations can be as short as 15 days by registered mail.

Driving uninsured is costly

Driving without insurance in Ontario can mean fines of $5,000 to $50,000, a licence suspension and your vehicle impounded.

You have options

A broker can approach several insurers, including some that accept drivers with claims or tickets. The Facility Association is the insurer of last resort for high-risk drivers.

What Frank looks at

Common questions

Why would an insurer cancel or not renew?

Common reasons include missed payments, claims, tickets or information that wasn’t disclosed. Your notice or insurer can tell you the reason.

Will this affect my next policy?

It can. Insurers may ask whether a policy was cancelled, and some reasons can affect the price. Answering honestly matters.

What if no insurer will accept me?

The Facility Association provides auto insurance to high-risk drivers who can’t find it in the regular market. Frank can explain whether that applies to you.

Is this only for car insurance?

No. Home insurance can be cancelled or not renewed too. Tell Frank what happened and he’ll look at your options.
